Many diseases that have caused many deaths are non-infectious. Yet, they are Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) caused by human behaviors and lifestyles such as inappropriate diet, lack of exercise, accumulating stress and multiple toxins exposure from our environment.
This group of diseases are normally asymptomatic but accumulates gradually until disaster strikes during a diagnosis. Sadly, by the time medical attention is required, the disease has already turned chronic.
Diseases belonging to the NCDs group includes the following:
-
obesity
-
diabetes
-
hypertension
-
kidney disease
-
cardiovascular diseases
-
cerebrovascular diseases
We are well aware that these diseases were caused by behavioral actions, lifestyles practices, unhealthy diets and overeating of unhealthy foods such as fats, sugars and proteins.
Studies found that protein can increase levels of Homocysteine in the body. Usually, Homocysteine is a metabolite of methionine which the body obtains from protein in our foods. The average level of Homocysteine in the blood is between 5-15 µmol/L.
However, if we consume a large amount of protein, this may result to high level of Homocysteine, which can damage the lining of the blood vessels (Endothelial damage). As time passes, plaques accumulate and can lead to blockages, constriction or burst of blood vessels in the brain, which can be dire.
Therefore, if you Do Not want to get cerebrovascular disease, you must work on the preventive factors such as changing your behavior and choosing highly nutrimental diets. A healthy diet should consist more of fruit and vegetables. As for lifestyle, exercise at least 3-5 times per week, quit smoking, avoid foods that are high-fats and get sufficient relaxation to prevent stress. All of these factors can help you reduce the risk of all forms of NCDs, which are in turn also the risk factors for cerebrovascular diseases.
