Anti-Cancer Diet

     

     Many people wonder how food can prevent cancer. What is the best food for people with cancer? First of all, we should clearly understand that cancer prevention and cancer treatment are two different components. 

     For cancer prevention, we will choose the food and nutrients that help to inhibit free radicals. Firstly, the selected food should be organic. The food needs to be rinsed well with alkaline water, soaking with charcoal or washed in a vegetable washing machine that uses the ozone to disinfect and destroy the chemical residue through ultrasonic vibration. It is believed that the vibration can clean the chemical residue ingrained in the flesh of vegetables and fruits. Choosing the right method will depend on one’s budget and commitment towards better health. 

      Charcoal for example can absorb toxins well. All hospitals use charcoal. If a patient has an acute toxin condition and stomach pumping is not contraindicated, charcoal would be the treatment of choice.  A big bag of charcoal can be used for a month and costs 85 baht per pot. As a matter of fact, when charcoal dissolved in water, it will become alkali and works perfectly well in getting rid of various chemicals from the skin of vegetables and fruits. As for alkaline water and water with negative ORP, those who have already installed the machine for making alkaline water and the water with negative ORP at home, the water can be used to soak the vegetables and fruits. The price of the machine that rinses toxins from vegetables and fruits is 20,000-30,000 baht. Therefore, get the machine if you think it is financially viable. If not, do not worry. Using charcoal is good enough.

Broccoli Extract 

     For those suffering from cancer, as part of the treatment protocol, the use of vitamins and nutrients will need to be titrated accordingly. However, the dosage used are normally with pharmaceutical effect and given at targeted sites, just like cancer medicine. For example: Broccoli extract called I3C can inhibit Tamoxifen and estrogen receptor. It acts like a type of chemotherapy that is used to cure breast cancer. A study from California University found that I3C could restrain the growth of breast cancer by up to 90% with the estrogen receptor while Tamoxifen could restrain the cancer by 60%. Moreover, I3C could inhibit the synthesis of the DNA in the breast cancer.


Curcumin

     It has been found that curcumin can restrain the growth process of cancer especially at the protein production stage. It targets the cancer tissue which produces the protein that activates abnormal cell proliferation, which causes the cells to grow abnormally and in turn become cancer. Moreover, curcumin can inhibit protein or the protein receptor, such as epidermal growth factor receptor, basic fibroblast growth factor and nuclear factor kappa beta, which can help control the growth of cancer. 

EGCG in Green Tea

     In green tea, EGCG can restrain the nuclear factor kappa beta, which is the protein that cancer uses to accelerate growth. Studies show that EGCG could restrain the growth of cancer by 58%, reduce the production of new blood vessels by 30% and increase the death of cancer cells by 1.9 times. EGCG could also restrain Telomerase, which is an enzyme that Cancer Stromal Cells use to extend its life. Therefore, EGCG can play an important role in reducing the function of Cancer Stromal Cells.


Melatonin

     Melatonin is a type of hormone that is commonly use as a food supplement to help with sleeping. It was found that melatonin can restrain the estrogen receptor. It acts like Tamoxifen, a medicine for breast cancer. However, Melatonin has fewer side effects compared to Tamoxifen. 

Garlic

     Garlic extract helps with the function of white blood cells and the function of macrophages. Studies have found that it can inhibit several types of cancer, such as esophageal cancer or melanoma cancer. 

Red Grapes

     The red grape extract, Resveratrol, restrains inflammation, especially those that occurs around blood vessels of the cancer, which causes the cancer to spread. Resveratrol increases the protein that controls the growth of cancer through the function of P21 protein and BAX protein, thus stopping the growth of cancer cells. Researchers found that it could restrain the growth of prostate cancer by 98%. The lab test on mice shows that it could reduce the size of highly metastatic Lewis Lung carcinoma by 42% and reduce proliferation by 56%. 

Soybeans

     Isoflavone is the extract from soybeans, which can restrain both the estrogen and androgen receptors. Therefore, it can restrain those cancers related to hormones, such as breast cancer, uterine cancer and prostate cancer. Researchers noted that in countries where citizens ate tofu or foods made from soybeans as their main diet, the rate of cancer related with sex hormones was lower. However, in countries that did not eat tofu or foods made from soybeans as their main diet, the rate of cancer related with sex hormones was higher.

     It was also found that there are two types of estrogen receptors on the cell walls, which are Type A and Type B. The soybean will activate the Type B receptor only, which can alleviate hot flashes from lack of hormones, strengthen the bones, prevent dry skin, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Type A receptor in turn is related with an abnormal growth of cells. Researchers also found that Type B estrogen receptor would suppress the function of the Type A estrogen receptor so that it can restrain the estrogen from getting into the cells. In summary, Soy extracts restrain estrogen but maintains its good properties (which occurs from activating the Type B estrogen receptor). Some example of the benefits are as follows: 

  • Maintains the strength of bones, skin, and brain

  • Reduces the risk of coronary artery disease

 

Vitamin C

     Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant that can assist in the prevention of cancer. Most people take about 500-1,000 mg. per day. However, if you want to treat the cancer, you should get proper amount of Vitamin C titrated by health professionals, especially while receiving chemotherapy or radiation. Nevertheless, Vitamin C can also act as chemotherapy for cancer treatment, but it must be given in a high dosage or a mega-dose. In order for the Vitamin C to be toxic to the cancer cell, the level of Vitamin C in the blood should be up to 600 mg/dL. Although Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant, in high doses, it can become a free radical itself, especially Peroxide. 

     Cancer cells have an enzyme that digests free radicals, which is called Catalase. Therefore, when the body has free radicals from Vitamin C, the normal cells will rely on Catalase to digest the Peroxide. However, the cancer cells lacking Catalase cannot protect themselves from the free radicals which in turns causes the cancer cells will die. Past research using mega-dose Vitamin C with chemotherapy found an increase in the responsive rate towards the chemotherapy. 

     In conclusion, apart from the conventional treatment methods, integrative medicine which includes the right diet has been a proven method of treatment which has brought back plenty of hope for all sufferers.
